What Is the Bagua?
The Bagua (八卦) is feng shui's energy map. It divides any space into nine sections, each corresponding to a different life area. By knowing which part of your home governs which aspect of life, you can intentionally enhance energy where you need support most.
The Nine Zones
Wealth (Far Left Back) — Purple/Green: Financial abundance and resources. Activate with healthy plants, water features, and abundance symbols.
Fame (Far Center Back) — Red: Reputation and visibility. Activate with candles, lights, and achievement symbols.
Love (Far Right Back) — Pink/Red: Romance and partnership. Activate with paired objects, rose quartz, and love symbols.
Family (Center Left) — Green: Family health and ancestral foundations. Activate with family photos and plants.
Health (Center) — Yellow: Overall wellbeing affecting all other areas. Keep clear and uncluttered.
Creativity (Center Right) — White: Creative expression and children. Activate with art and playful objects.
Knowledge (Front Left) — Blue/Green: Learning and spiritual development. Activate with books and meditation items.
Career (Front Center) — Black: Life's work and path forward. Often includes the front door. Activate with water features and career symbols.
Helpful People (Front Right) — Gray/Silver: Mentors, benefactors, and travel. Activate with inspiring images and metallic tones.
How to Overlay It
Stand at your front door looking in. The front third of your home (nearest door) holds Knowledge/Career/Helpful People. Middle third: Family/Health/Creativity. Back third: Wealth/Fame/Love. Apply the same logic to individual rooms using each room's entrance as reference.
Getting Started
Declutter first — clutter blocks all zones. Fix broken items. Set clear intentions as you make changes. Work on one zone at a time, starting with the area most needing support in your life right now.
